Accessibility
We want Budget Builder by MyKey to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, larger text, or a small phone. Our goal is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We are not finished, and this page tells you plainly where we are.
What we have built in
- Keyboard use. You can reach every button, link and box with the Tab key, and a clear ring or outline shows where you are. A "Skip to main content" link is the first stop on every screen.
- Focus that stays with you. When you open a tool, the keyboard moves to that tool's heading. When you add or remove something, the keyboard stays close by and does not jump back to the top of the page.
- Labels and headings. Every box has a label. Every screen has one main heading and one main area. Each tool, and each of these information pages, has its own title in the browser tab.
- Short spoken updates. When you add or remove something, save a goal, answer a practice question, or erase your data, the app writes a short message that screen readers can read out loud.
- Mistakes explained in words. If an amount or a due day cannot be used, a message in plain words shows next to the box. If a button is not ready yet, a short note near it says what to type first.
- Meaning is never color alone. When your budget is short, the app says so in words. A paid bill gets a check mark and a line through its name.
- Colors you can read. The text on every screen passed our contrast checks.
- Small screens and larger text. The app fits a phone 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling. With text set to twice the size, lines wrap and nothing is cut off, even with very large amounts.
- Calm motion. The starry background moves gently. A Pause motion button in the bottom corner stops all movement, and your choice is remembered on this device. If your device is set to Reduce Motion, the background stays still.
- Big tap targets. Buttons and links in the tools are at least 44 pixels tall.
How we tested
We last tested on October 10, 2026. Here is what we did:
- Automated axe checks on every screen, including this page, the Privacy page and the Terms page.
- A keyboard-only walk-through of every tool and every page.
- A phone width of 320 pixels.
- Larger text, at twice the normal size.
- The Reduce Motion setting.
All of this was done in the Chromium browser.
What we know still needs work
- With very large text on a small phone, a long number or name can scroll sideways inside its box while you are typing it. Once it is added, it shows in full.
What we have not tested yet
- People who use VoiceOver or TalkBack every day.
- Switch control.
- Windows High Contrast.
- The Safari and Firefox browsers.
- The number keypads that phones show for money boxes.
- The app inside each flipbook viewer.
If you use one of these and something does not work, we would be grateful to hear about it.
Tell us about a barrier
